AYSO United Alabama Welcomes John Carrier As New U13-U19 Technical Director

AYSO United is delighted to announce John Carrier as the club’s new U13-U19 Technical Director! Coach Carrier is the University of Alabama in Huntsville Men’s Soccer Head Coach and is one of the most knowledgeable and reputable coaches in the region. Carrier, a native of Norwich, England, is in his sixth season as the UAH head coach, prior to which he was the Assistant Coach for three years. As a player, Carrier was a member of the youth teams at Norwich City FC in the UK, before moving to the US, where he would star for Tennessee Wesleyan University and then professionally for Chattanooga FC.

Carrier’s primary role as Technical Director will be to oversee the development of the AYSO United coaches, teams and players in the U13-U19 (2012-2006) age groups. “We are absolutely thrilled to bring in someone of John’s knowledge and reputation to the club. I think it speaks volumes about the direction we are heading as an organization to have John join us in this part-time leadership role,” said Club Director, Michael Winstone, “John’s expertise in the college game will not only have a profound impact on our players, many of whom themselves are looking to make the jump into collegiate soccer, but also on our coaches’ development. If you look at where Coach Carrier’s previous assistant coaches have gone on to - NCAA Division 1 and 2 coaching positions – it is clear to see he has an outstanding ability to maximize a coach’s potential”.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be working with AYSO United!” said Carrier, “the club has done a great job in connecting the local community and I hope to have an instant impact by supporting the players and coaches. I look forward to helping grow the sport for the youth in the Madison/Huntsville area!”.

The U8-U12 (2017-2013) age groups will continue to be overseen by Club Director, Michael Winstone. Coach Winstone will continue to work with the coaches and teams in these foundation ages to support the development of each group. “Ensuring our youngest teams get an early start on developing and playing soccer the right way is hugely important to us as a club,” said Winstone, “If we can get our youngest teams playing a brave, modern, possession-based style of soccer, we will be setting these youngsters up for lifelong success in the game, whether that be in club, school, college soccer or beyond! What’s most important to us is that these players love every second of being at practice and games and that they become lifelong fans of the sport!”.
